The Quest for a Cocktail: The Hemingway Daiquiri

Posted on March 13, 2018

Vacation usually takes on a different connotation when the weather is warmer. You start feeling relaxed the minute the sun hits your face the right way. You can sense relaxation in the way a loose fitting shirt clings to your skin or the way your flip flops cradle your toes. Las Vegas has perfected the idea of vacation, relaxation and transformation but realistically any location can bring you that magic if the right cocktail is involved.

You need the right drink to get you started and I’m going to suggest the simple yet classic Hemingway Daiquiri.
This is not the daiquiri you perfected in college. Don’t even consider that drink that clogged your blender during spring break. This is the daiquiri that has a little history associated with it. This is the drink that Ernest Hemingway made famous in a bar in Cuba. This is a drink that has been spoken about in great works of fiction and enjoyed by sailors, tourists and rummies around the world from Paris to Key West to Las Vegas.
The Hemingway Daiquiri Recipe:
2 ounces white rum
3/4 ounce fresh lime juice
1/2 ounce fresh grapefruit juice
1/2 ounce maraschino liqueur
1 lime wheel, for garnish
Grab a shaker with some ice and drop everything in except the lime wheel. Give it a good shake and then strain in to a glass. Garnish with the lime wheel and sit back and enjoy a little of the Havana atmosphere.
So, you really don’t feel like making your own Hemingway Daiquiri?
