Spa Day at Delano Las Vegas

By Zeke Quezada

Spa fanatics can keep their coffee scrubs and mud rubs for themselves. For my money, the best mashup of new ideas and old-school techniques is the 80-minute Thai Fusion massage at The Bathhouse, the moody, zen spa treatments on the second floor of the Delano. Combining elements of traditional Thai massage, shiatsu, and deep tissue work, a series of long, slow, deep strokes plus assisted and passive stretching made my arms, legs and back go mushy. You know those massage sticks your trainer is always telling you to use? Forget them. Turns out an inexpensive, polished birch wood dowel works even better, at least when my therapist used it and some warm oils to further rubberize my thighs, calves and hips. “Sometimes a spa adds a fancy name to a boring treatment,” my very grounded, very Crossfit-sculpted therapist advised me when I asked if she’d ever choose a New Age-sounding treatment for herself. “Other times, like with this Thai Fusion therapy, it’s the real deal, and it’s not to be missed.” You know what? She’s right.

What to Expect at The Bathhouse Las Vegas

The Bathhouse at Delano Las Vegas is not quite boutique but it does give you a sense of individuality. This is not a giant spa where spa attendants are at every turn and the number of options are endless when you are still grappling with how to approach your spa day. The size of the spa does not matter. Really, size does not matter! Spend a little time in the redwood sauna, drop into a heated whirlpool, breathe easier in the eucalyptus steam room and then wake up in the cold plunge. You’ll find everything that you would normally expect from a high-quality spa in a more personalized packaged at Bathhouse at Delano Las Vegas.

Treatments at The Spa Delano Las Vegas:

  • Desert Stone Massage: The sage and lemon oil create an atmosphere of relaxation that feels very summer like. The war stone release the stress that is hidden deep in your muscles and the therapist finds a way to rub you with a piece of the earth that melts away even the stress you didn’t know you had.
  • Delano Signature Massage: This approach to getting a massage should be at the top of your list. The therapists ask you exactly what you need and then they create a treatment specific to your needs. Go ahead and ask for 50 minutes of fingers on your scalp and shoulders. Go right ahead and feel the week’s worth of worry seep out of your heavy shoulders and tense temples.
  • Double Down: Bourbon and sugar scrubbed deep into your hard to get parts. By hard to get I mean the spots where you hold the stress of crying kids and pushy bosses. Yes, it may seem like a bad thing to go straight for the bourbon to relieve your stress but it’s only being rubbed on your body. As the rub takes hold of your tense body your hands and feet get a complete rubdown as well and soon you’ll need someone to wake you up.
