The McLaren Vale wine region is home to many wineries that produce internationally renowned wines. It is approximately 22 miles South of Adelaide in the Southern part of Australia. This area produces a wide range of varietals, as it is known for its diverse soil types and distinctive terroir.
Established in 1912 by Joseph Osborn, d’Arenberg winery has prided themselves on producing over 60 types of wines in the traditional style of winemaking. Chester Osborn carries on his family’s legacy as a fourth generation winemaker and visionary. Taking on the family’s practice of conventional wine growing and winemaking are not the only desires that Chester holds, he also has a passion for art. This ultimately led to his vision of the “d’Arenberg Cube”.
The d’Arenberg Cube was a dream of Chester’s for many years and was inspired by the classic “Rubik’s Cube”. The 5 story concrete and steel structure is shrouded in glass and overlooks the magnificent surrounding vineyards. With a price tag of AUD $14 million, (approx. US $10 million), the d’Arenberg Cube is certainly an impressive addition to the d’Arenberg Estate.
The d’Arenberg Cube Grand Opening in May 2017 is expected to increase tourism significantly from the current 50,000 visitors annually. Plans for expansion of the existing Cellar Door and d’Arry’s Verandah Restaurant have been in the making for some time, so Chester’s vision of the Cube will make this a reality.
The d’Arenberg Cube will also be home to artwork which will be strategically located throughout the Cube, in addition to new offices, and a custom dining area for special events.
